No recalls apply to 2017. By 2019, the profile changed again: a cracked cylinder head causing an oil leak became the single most-reported issue at 67 occurrences, with infotainment glitches persisting (49 reports), engine overheating with visible smoke (22 reports), and a separate severe oil leak from the engine block (20 reports) rounding out a year with 223 total complaints. Infotainment malfunctions continued into 2020 (25 reports) alongside brake system failures (7 reports) and an engine oil leak (6 reports), while 2021 returned the focus to oil consumption directly, reported 34 times, plus a low oil light complaint (16 reports) and an unintended acceleration complaint carrying the safety-severity tag (15 reports). Given how the CX-5's issues cluster differently by era, a buyer's inspection priorities should shift depending on which model year is under consideration, and recall completion should be verified for 2016 and 2019 specifically. These figures reflect owner-filed reports rather than a measured defect rate — the newest years here have simply had less time to accumulate their own totals — so a documented service history and hands-on inspection remain the more reliable guide regardless of year.
