I would like to give a shout out to an excellent mechanic, Elijah, and OYP's Garage in Bernalillo, NM. Recently, I was traveling alone and my pickup became overheated, but I was able to get it to Elijah for analysis and repair. He was a man of his word, very kind as well, and conscientious about getting to my vehicle as quickly as possible. This was a problem another mechanic had already tried to fix. Elijah was able to properly diagnose the problem and fix it only a day and a half later, and for a reasonable price. I learned later that he had even replaced my coolant with the factory recommended product for older trucks, not generally available. I was able to make it home to Colorado without incident. I highly recommend OYP's Garage!

I was headed to Albuquerque for an event when my GMC 4500 overheated 12 miles out of town. I limped my truck into town and found a diesel mechanic shop that could look at it, and they told me it was a blown head gasket and I needed a new motor and it was going to cost $15,000 to fix the existing motor out $35,000-$40,000 got a new motor and it was going to be at least 2 months to get this done. I was only supposed to me in town for the weekend. The truck would run but it would overheat so I thought I would get a second opinion. I took it to OYP’s Garage and was told that Elijah did great work, so I decided to let him diagnose what was wrong with the truck. He checked the thermostat and that was working, did a block test to see if it was a head gasket problem, checked for antifreeze in the oil, and then determined there was no flow coming past the water pump. Make a long story short, the problem was that the water pump was the culprit and I didn’t need a new motor. Within no time at all, he had it tore apart and also determined that the cam gear was marred and there was teeth broken from the water pump laying in the oil pan. Elijah fixed my truck for $2,700 including parts and labor and kept me in the loop the while time. I flew from Boise, Idaho to Albuquerque, New Mexico and drove it home the 970 miles home with the temperature never climbing over 190. I would recommend Elijah any day! Honest, knowledgeable, reliable, and very thorough explaining what is wrong and what should be done to fix the problem. If he doesn’t know something he will do the research to make sure he is doing the job right. I couldn’t be happier!
