Belmont Watertown Transmissions

Long story short. Do NOT get your transmission worked on here unless Joe is in the shop. THEY RECOMMENDED AN ENTIRE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT FOR $3500 WITHOUT FINDING A SINGLE PROBLEM (other than a slightly burnt smell in the fluid). At best the workers here were lazy with their diagnosis, at worse they saw me walk in and wanted a blank check. My hyundai elantra had been jolting when shifting into reverse during the cold months. I brought it into the shop and told them that. They called me back 2 hours later saying I need to change the entire transmission for $3000-$3500. When I asked why the transmission needed replacing, they said the internal solenoid is bad and that cannot be fixed (RED FLAG). My family has worked in auto repairs for years, and advised me to dig further. Turns out HYUNDAI Manufacturing recommends NOT replacing the transmission for a bad solenoid that costs $40-$100 bucks. So things were not adding up. I show up and ask for the diagnosis. They said “needs a new transmission” when I asked why, they said “bad solenoid”. When I said how do you know/What are the codes?/ Did you test the solenoid? They said they took it for a spin did NOT feel any issues. Raised it on the lift the fluid level was fine but smelt a little burnt. So they RECOMMENDED AN ENTIRE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. I asked them would they do that on their car? At first they confidently said YES OF COURSE! Then when I walked step by step through and stopped them from muddying the waters, they CHANGED THEIR RECOMMENDATION to only a solenoid change (at my own risk. No guarantees)!!! BUT when I ask how do they know thats even the problem? They said they know Hyundais have that problem. Why didnt they check the pan or the solenoid? No clue! Lazy I hope. Then they mentioned the real reason they didnt recommend that in the first place. The owner who can actually do that kind of work isnt here. So thats why they skipped steps 1-4 and went to replacement. Might as well replace the whole car if hes not here. So i asked, do you expect me to pay for a full diagnosis fee of $175 based on what they did? They said yes of course. I was very disappointed but agreed to pay however want everything in writing so I can get it serviced somewhere else. I no longer trust them or their services. At that time, the previous owner/founder who retired 15 years ago walked over. He told me he was not there during the testing and was filling in for Joe. But you can tell he was disappointed at how things have gone without Joe and how little due diligence was done. He said he doesnt want me to go to another shop and wants customers to trust them. Im glad to hear that but in reality trust is built through actions and the actions here speak for themselves. After he spoke to me, the receptionist decided to not charge me for the diagnosis BUT WENT BACK ON THEIR WORD AND REFUSED TO WRITE ANYTHING DOWN (cause there was nothing to write down. Honestly very minimal testing done). Based on the reviews I was shocked. Hope Joe is enjoying Aruba.

11/10. I absolutely love Tina and the team! Extremely knowledgeable, and a great deal! I drive an 02 Ford Ranger and other shops have told me: "sorry we don't work on vehicles that old..." When I went to another shop (Lexington Auto center) they stripped out the bolts on my crank position sensor - I should have gone to Belmont Watertown Trans first! Tina and Belmont Watertown transmissions are always there to save the day. They offer great transmission and engine work. They are my go to shop from now on! Thanks you BWT!!!!

This last year with my 2012 Chevy Impala has been quite a journey. My car had about 217,000 miles on it but the engine was running fine, ("you can't kill these V6 engines") so I was planning on driving it for at least several more years. Then, things started to go, all at once: all four rotors and brakes needed to be replaced, several wheel bearings, actuator motors for controlling the heat and AC, defroster fan and harness, the list just kept growing and, on top of all that, the transmission was starting to act funny, making a 'clunking' noise when I stepped on the accelerator. My mechanic of several years, ("who was also my beloved Brother-in-law Law"), had recently passed away, leaving me to try and find a place to bring the car to that could do the work, and also, that I could trust! The first place I took it to did 'some' work, but, in the end, I wasn't satisfied with it, and then I subsequently took it to an aquaintance's mechanic. Again, had some work done, only to be told that, because the transmission fluid looked and smelled burnt, that I should get rid of the car. I still believed there was life in my car, so I Googled 'best' local transmission places. 'Belmont Transmission' came up first and, Thank God, I called them first! I had the diagnostic done, and was told that the transmission was fine!!! The 'clunking' sound was coming from the transmission mounts, which they promptly replaced with new ones, and they added a little transmission fluid. That's all I needed! They could easily have told me that I needed a new transmission or, at the very least, that I had to have some extensive, ("and 'expensive"), work done to it, and I would have believed them, but the people working at Belmont Transmission are Honest! I had ALL the rest of the work done there, the bearings, actuator motors, fan harness, various undercarriage issues. Now, my car 'runs like a top'! I, literally, cannot say enough good things about this business, or recommend them higher! Tina, who you first meet when you walk in the door, is one of the nicest, most caring people you could ever meet! She really puts the customer first, and she addressed all MY concerns with her own genuine concern, product knowledge, and professionalism. Tina is actually the reason I decided to have the work done there, because I felt I could trust her when she said that all the work I needed to have done would be done right, and my faith in her, and in Belmont Transmission, was completely justified! Seriously, I feel that I can relax now, as I've found a worthy replacement for my Brother-in-Law, which I never thought I'd find. I will, and already have, recommended Belmont Transmission to several friends and workmates, and will continue to do so. As long as Belmont Transmission is in business, they'll have mine!

I bought a 20 year old Toyota Highlander with over 175,000 miles on it in great shape. The transmission needed work since it stuttered a bit between second and third. Belmont made the transmission hum and found and fixed a few other things that needed attention. The price was lower than I expected. I now have a car that will go for another 175,000 miles.

Even before I get into my own review, I'd like to remind the reader: it's quite rare to find an auto shop with a high rating. Belmont Watertown Transmissions came highly recommended by my neighbors, and I'm so glad I trusted Tina and the crew with my car. They fixed up my completely dead car and charged a great price. They were responsive, transparent, and so kind. I love that there is a local shop I can trust. Cannot recommend more!
