Shawnee Service Center

My tire blew out at 70 miles an hour on the highway. Following up with Shawnee after an emergency roadside repair, they helped me find the best tires at the lowest price and installed them quickly so that I was not driving around town with no spare tire. They offered me a ride while my car was being serviced, they consulted with me about unanticipated expenses before incurring them, and finished the work early.

Just another five star experience at Shawnee, which is what I’ve come to expect. Phil and George make sure that things are taken care of and all their mechanics are top-notch for 30 years plus we’ve been taking our cars since the day we drive them out of the showroom to Shawnee For service. They are absolutely the best.

I apologize for the delay in posting my review. We bought brought our recently purchased used 2012 Rav4 to Shawnee Service center for diagnosis back in the fall of 2023 due to strange engine noises, especially on turns. I believe we came in for diagnosis twice within a couple months. Each time we paid a diagnositic fee, as is reasonable, but no cause was found. Shawnee Service Center even offered to keep the vehicle overnight for diagnosis. Shortly thereafter, we discovered on our own that the problem the entire time had been low engine oil levels. We now know, and mechanics have confirmed when we go for oil changes, that the 2012 Rav4 engines are known to burn oil in general. They often mention this even before looking at our vehicle, just based on the year and model. A quick youtube search for "2012 toyota rav4 burning oil" confirms that it is endemic. It is surprising to us that Shawnee Service Center did not check the oil level as part of their diagnosis, especially on a make and model known to burn oil. We had our vehicle in their shop multiple times within this short period and yet they never checked the oil level, which was so low that it didn't even register on the dipswitch after adding a quart. We also had an incident regarding stripped tire bolts when we attempted to have our tires changed at one of the big box retailers after our diagnoses with Shawnee, but it is unfortunately unclear as to which, if either, of them is responsible for that. Regardless of which mechanic stripped them, Shawnee did repair the stripped bolts for a reasonable price. While I'm sure that Shawnee Service Center can do some things well, we do not recommend them for diagnosis. We also recommend that everybody check their oil levels regularly, especially on used cars. We recommend that Shawnee Service Center routinely check the oil on ALL vehicles brought in for service, especially those brought in for diagnostics. At the very least, it will increase the quality of the service, if not also bringing in additional revenue.

Needed my car to get an oil change and checked before winter. They were great about scheduling a time within a week. Dropped my car off in the morning and was ready sooner than expected. They didn’t try to sell me on anything extra and very polite service!
