Kai is a very humble mechanic who absolutely saved my day yesterday. I was about 1 mile from this shop when my radiator cracked and my engine started to overheat. I pulled into his shop around 2:45pm and he had me out of there by 5:30pm. I was 60 miles from home and would have been stranded, the tow alone would have cost more than the repair I paid for! Kai could have easily turned me down or said to leave the car with him so he could work on it, but he understood my situation and went above and beyond to get the job done right the first time. He was very friendly, I asked a lot of questions because I am genuinely interested in the process and what is required (I'm a shade tree mechanic). He did not mark up the parts and did everything he could to make sure the repair was solid and I wouldn't have any trouble making it home. Kai has definitely earned my trust and I'll be going back to him when I'm in the area.

On 6/4/2025 , I called this place and spoke to Kai about heat shield on part of exhaust, this piece is about 12”, it was loose so I ask him to fix it, he said it’s small job and charge $60 for 1/2 hour, was ok with me, I dropped the car at 11am (my lunch time, I Work in that area) and told him I will picked up at 2:30. When I came to pick it up , went inside to pay, he said he could not welded because it was rusted so he attached it with 2 hose clamps (6” each ), I thanked him and pay $60 and left, when I got home I checked it to see if O2 sensor was ok(it goes through shield) , to my surprise I found the shield piece was attached with one clamp only($3.59 at Home Depot). There is no reason for him to lie about it since this was easy job 15 min and his shop was empty, no cars on waiting for him Honestly is best policy to get more customers and business,,,,,,,,,,,stay away from this place, shady business, lies and unprofessional .

Do not take your car to this auto shop. They charged me $470 to change my front brake pads and rotors. Days later, my front brakes were grinding and squealing. I took my car to a different (more trusted) mechanic and found out that Kai at Oakton & Hamlin Auto Services used the cheapest ceramic brake pads possible and installed them with poor quality of work. Also, they did not even look at my back brakes which also needed to be replaced. I had to pay a different auto body to replace the same front brake pads and rotors that Oakton & Hamlin replaced only days later. Essentially, I paid Oakton & Hamlin $470 to make my car worse than it was.

I have been taking my cars here for quite some time. Approximately 6 to 7 years. They are fair and very knowledgeable. Whenever something is repaired it does not go back in for the same problem. I have recommended this mechanic to my friends and family. They have not disappointed anybody that I personally know.
