Toyota of Des Moines Service Center

I had an extremely frustrating experience with Toyota of Des Moines due to poor communication, inconsistent information, and rude staff. I called last week after my regular mechanic changed my oil and checked dash lights that had come on. My mechanic told me the lights pointed to a possible engine computer issue, cleared the codes, and advised me to take it to a Toyota dealership since they couldn’t handle that level of diagnostics. When I called Toyota of Des Moines to schedule, I explicitly explained that the lights had been cleared and asked if that would be a problem. I was told clearly that it would not be an issue and to bring the car in. An appointment was scheduled for several days out, the soonest they could get me in. When I arrived for my appointment, I was immediately given conflicting instructions. I called to ask where to go and the receptionist told me to park in the lot and walk into the service center. Once inside, I was told I actually should have driven the car into a service bay instead, I had to walk back out and move my car back to the bays where the receptionist specifically told me not to go. Once in the bay, I again explained the situation, including that I had confirmed in advance that cleared codes would not be a problem. At that point, I was told they would not be able to properly look at my car because the lights had been cleared. This directly contradicted what I was told when scheduling. To make it worse, the staff member I spoke with was rude and dismissive, and even scolded me by saying it’s “not the receptionist’s job to understand these things.” If that’s the case, then she should not be giving definitive answers to specific technical questions without checking with someone who does know. Instead, I was given incorrect information that wasted my time and forced me to take time away from work for an appointment they could not actually fulfill. I was then told I could pay over $200 for them to “see if they could find anything,” with no guarantee of results—something I never would have scheduled had I been told that upfront. Every person I spoke to told me something different. The communication is terrible, the staff was rude, and the entire visit was a waste of time. I will be going to a different Toyota dealership in the future if the issue comes back.

I am continuously amazed with Toyota. Their service is second to none, communication is excellent, and I love that they provide a video of my inspection. I will be er go anywhere else!

Can’t put this any better…… had the wife and kid take our Toyota FJ Cruiser in for a alignment and they do half the job but wanted to charge for the full job…. Then they proceeded to strip my control arm nuts and say there broken or seized ….. THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT HAVE DONE MY ALIGNMENT THEY SHOULD OF PUT ANTI-SEIZE ON THEM BUT DIDNT ….. it’s a joke it has went downhill quick I will not be back that’s pathetic

I went here for my synthetic oil change. Service is always great. Love that I can wait or get shuttled elsewhere. There are always free hot drinks and sometimes sweets. The waiting area is big. I can go anywhere for my oil change, but I always choose Toyota. My car is a Toyota, so they know my car well. I love the video inspections, recommendations, and my fluids are always topped. For what I got for it is really worth it. Online will usually have a $5 off coupon or sometimes they will mail home a $10 off coupon. The people there are honest, trustworthy, and experienced. I can take my car there with confidence and know that they will not try to cheat me. I can trust their advice and service. Every visit comes with a car wash card at Tommy's Express. Considering the package I'm getting from the service, advice, top off, and car wash, it's really worth it. Other services may be more expensive, but you can pick and choose what you want done or take their recommendations and go do it yourself or elsewhere. I love Toyota and my next car will probably come from there too.

Purchased a Toyota minivan brand new in 2022. The entertainment console never worked. Had them look at it and got a brief answer that it looked fine to them. Still couldn't get it to work. Got delay tactics for several more times, "didn't have time to look" or "forgot to look" until the warranty lapsed. Talked to a manager that said there was nothing they could do without charging me to look at it. Great use of stall and delay tactics until the warranty lapsed. Not a great business practice.
