Kwik Kar Automotive Repair

I have previously brought my equinox here for routine oil changes with the last one being on Jaunary 13, 2026. At that time the technician advised me that I would need and oil flush in order to help the car run smoother. The technician also advised me of a known issue that would likely affect my vehicle soon due to mileage. He advised that the timing belt would likely get loose and said it wasn't something they could fix there. Due to him having the same vehicle, I asked for a time frame and urgency of repair and he stated I had some time and the oil flush would help, so I elected to have the service. Fast forward to April 17th, I bring my vehicle in before the stated oil mileage due to the check engine light being on. I had a diagnosic exam done and was told that the error code provided would be fixed with an oil change. I had the oil change done and left. I called back soon after because the check engine light was still on and asked about it. I was told to drive it around for a bit for the oil to cycle and it should go away. Fast forward and it is still there. I go to leave for work on 4/27 and my vehicle starts but quickly stalls out, refusing to run. I eventually have it towed to kwik kar, and go to speak with a few staff members in the front that state the timing belt has likely given out. I ask to leave the vehicle there in order to have it towed to a dealership the next morning. They agree. The next morning. Tim, the presumably general manager or owner, calls to ask what is happening with the vehicle. I give a brief rundown and he review previous reciepts stating that the error codes from the diagnosic exam were not noted so he is unsure of what the issue may be. I tell him with the technician told me during the previous visit and the previous day about the timing belt and he says he would check it out, i tell him i have the keys (at home) and the tow truck should be there soon. the tow truck arrives and loads up the vehicle, Tim comes out and tries to start the vehicle while loaded on the truck bed, and asks the tow truck driver how it sounds. After a quick crank and giving it some gas, Tim gets out of the vehicle and says something along the lines of "yeah that sounds rough" before heading back into the business. Vehicle gets to the dealership, they run their own diagnostic and inform me that the engine has no oil in it at all. They have to fill up 3 liters of oil, just to turn the vehicle on. Due to this the engine would essentially need to be replaced costing approximate 12k to fix. In order to recuperate some of the cost, my husband contacted Kwik Kar in order to have the latest service refunded due to the missed diagnosis and essential engine failure and was told they will not provide a refund because they put oil in the car and completed the services charged. I am not questioning that this service was done or expecting the cost of the oil itself to be refunded. I am however requesting a refund for the cost of the poor diagnostic exam resulting in the total loss of a vehicle approximately 2 months before I welcome a child into the world. I have come to this kwik kar since I moved to the area roughly 2 years ago, and believed I had a positive relationship with the technicians there. It is unfortunate that this is the cost of taking them at their word regarding repairs and solutions.

Do not go to this location. We brought in our car to get an oil change and to look at an issue with the engine. They told us it was a timing belt and never replaced the oil causing the engine to stop working. Please look for a different place to trust with your oil change. Addition: Kwik Kar has responded saying that they said they would fix it. They have never offered that option in all the times I spoken to them. They mention video on the issue. They sent me a phone recording through a window at a random car getting serviced, with no visual marking of it being my car. Lastly they mention it already stopped working by the time I vrought it in, however the car atopped working due to no oil 10 days after our visit with them. You can see that they lied in their response to my comment. Do not trust them with your car. If I could give a 0 star review I would.

Took care of me well especially bc I know nothing about cars. They were educated and knowledgeable on everything and explained wonderfully! No issues w my car since.

Above and Beyond Service! After a botched oil change elsewhere this morning, my skid plate began dragging on the pavement. I limped into Kwik Kar, and before I even turned off the engine, a technician was already walking out to meet me—he’d heard the scraping and knew exactly what had happened. The team was incredible: - Immediate Action: Three technicians jumped in to safely remove the dragging plate. -Quality Check: They discovered missing fasteners and an oil leak (a loose cap) left behind by the previous shop. -Integrity: They gave me professional advice on how to hold the other company accountable. -Empathy: After I mentioned some financial constraints, they provided a coupon to ensure my next service is affordable and done right. It’s rare to find a shop that prioritizes safety and community over a quick buck. They saved my car and earned a lifelong customer. Highly recommend!
