Poor Workmanship A friend gave me the owner’s number. When I saw we were in some of the same WhatsApp groups, I trusted him. My car’s A/C had recently lost performance — cooling gradually got worse, heating had no problems. I called the owner, Mr. Rabi, on October 28 to explain my complaint. He said he could definitely help and told me not to worry. I went to the shop to make an agreement. AGREEMENT: The car would be inspected, authorized-service maintenance costs were used as a reference, and they said the expense would be around $1,500–$2,000. When I asked to see the price details, I noticed the parts prices were very inflated. For example, they were selling four cans for $90 at Walmart —even large vehicles use at most three cans —but they charged $90 for just one can at their shop! With labor at $60/hour and the other materials they listed, the total couldn’t possibly reach that quoted amount. So I negotiated. Finally we agreed on $700 total for original parts + labor; if the compressor needed replacing, an extra $300 would be added. The next day they said they would take the car at 8:00 a.m. and return it by 6:00 p.m. 1st SERVICE: I arrived at the shop at 8:00 a.m. on October 29 — it was closed. At 8:39 the first employees opened the doors, and others arrived one or two at a time. They took my keys at 9:10 a.m., and when I left at 9:45 a.m. they still hadn’t started working on my car. That was my first concern. During the day Rabi called and said the radiator needed to be replaced; I approved it. At 6:00 p.m. my car still wasn’t ready, so I waited until 8:00 p.m. When they finally returned the car, the passenger side wasn’t cooling — and they weren’t even aware of it. Rabi told me to either leave the car or pay $1,650 (an extra $650 for the radiator — but there are no radiators that expensive!) and come back. I needed the car over the weekend and could not leave it there, so Rabi refused to give it back unless I paid. I felt I had no choice and paid, then left. The next day at the place where I had parked the car I noticed an oil puddle on the ground. I took a photo and sent it to Rabi, but he didn’t even bother to reply out of courtesy. That was my second concern. I’d had an oil change a week earlier, so I didn’t focus on it too much at first. However, over the weekend the car threw an “oil pressure” fault and stopped on the road. I let the car cool for a few hours, added oil, and got home. 2nd SERVICE: On Monday morning, November 3, I went back to Rabi. Because the radiator had not been connected properly, oil had leaked from the radiator area and the engine had essentially run dry. This worried me more than the previous issues. I reminded Rabi that on the first day he had said he would track down the old parts and could refund my money; I asked for the old parts and my refund. Rabi said not to worry, that the problem was serious but he would fix it that day if I gave them five hours. I didn’t want further delays, so they continued the repairs. Again I waited until 8:00 p.m. When they said the car was ready I checked the air conditioning: the passenger side was working, but now the rear was not heating — and again they didn’t seem to notice. We repeated similar dialogue: they said this was a different fault, that they had replaced the necessary parts, and that they would look at this new issue the next day. Rabi then demanded an additional $350 for the second service. I said I would pay after the job was completed because the problem still hadn’t been fixed. In response, Rabi closed the shop’s parking gate and would not let me leave without paying. I paid the extra $350 and told him I would never come back and that I didn’t trust his word. Rabi claimed he had never had problems with anyone before and that this was the first time; when I later checked Google reviews for this shop, I found that claim to be untrue. I should have looked there first — that was my mistake. I’m posting these details here so others won’t make the same mistake. I hope this didn’t happen to me in vain and that it helps someone else.
