Came here for code P00FE which is a generic "EVAP vapor line obstruction". Called this morning asking if a smoke test will be done to determine what it is, as it could be a clogged charcoal canister, a blocked canister vent valve, a stuck purge valve, or crushed lines, which unless theres visible damage, cannot be diagnosed by just looking, and the guy on the phone said any EVAP code would be smoke tested. We wanted to take it to a mechanic specifically for diagnostics we cannot do at home to actually pinpoint the issue. We have a scanner at home, and i can replace a purge valve on my own. They were not sure which part to order, the canister valve or the purge valve, and the fact there was so much uncertainty on which part is actually the issue made me extremely hesitant to pay 300+$ to replace a purge valve which I can do on my own. I kept trying to ask what diagnostic was actually done to determine which valve was stuck and kept being told that this error code is only for the purge valve, which any non-mechanic can do a quick google search and find thats not the case. When I asked if they could smoke test it the mechanic refused and said its not necessary because the smoke wouldnt go anywhere. Well...yeah...thats kind of the point. To see where its obstructed so we aren't spending 300+$ then coming right back because the code comes back. I kept asking what was done to test it and I could not get a straight answer.
