1 Star – October 29, 2025 Clay’s Service Center failed my 2015 VW Golf R for inspection, claiming my 235/45R17 tires on 17” wheels were “too small.” This is incorrect. • OEM placard lists 235/35R19 (stock) • My tires: 235/45R17 = 25.3” diameter vs. stock 25.5” → within 1%, safe, and common on MK7 Golf R • VW approves 235/45R17 on 17” wheels via winter packages (ETKA part #5G0 601 025 K) The mechanic used a generic chart and ignored Volkswagen’s own specs, costing me time and money. Lack of model-specific knowledge — not trustworthy for performance VWs. Avoid if you run aftermarket wheels or non-stock sizes. I’m going back to Wolfe’s VW where they know VW and Audi.

If you're looking for an honest shop, clays isn't it. Brought my vehicle in for inspection, half of what they failed it for it didn't need. Provided evidence and called them out on it and they still had the marbles to charge me $16 sticker fee. I know stickers only cost a few bucks but you obviously need it more than me. Sincerely, a Technician with 20yrs experience.

I had my vehicle towed to Clay's after getting jerked around at another shop. The head mechanic, Steve, went over & above doing the clutch replacement. The owner, Jim Clay, runs this shop with honesty & integrity. I appreciate that Jim sends his mechanics to get educated on the newest technologies on a regular basis. Keep up the great work! I highly recommend Clay's Service Center!

Clays really knows what they are doing and they really work hard to keep prices down. My honda ran better than it has in a long time after their service appointment. He was able to source parts creatively during a period when parts were harder to come by. I highly recommend these folks.

We get my wife's Subaru serviced at Clay's. Jim runs his service center with honesty and integrity. It's not a discount garage but we are always satisfied with their work. Jim and his mechanics always fix it right the 1st time and we have never had to return for the same problem. When we need a repair, Jim always gives us options like: this must be done for safety, identifies work that could be done while he's in there but could wait, and work that will probably be needed in the coming year. We've had the car for 10 years and Jim's forecast is usually right.
