Diesel Particulate Filter Pressure Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

The engine control module (ECM) monitors the exhaust pressure before and after the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to determine soot accumulation. Code P2453 is set when the ECM detects that the DPF pressure sensor 'A' signal is out of its expected calibration range or behaving irrationally based on current engine operating conditions.

How urgent is P2453?

While the vehicle can usually still be driven initially, ignoring this code can prevent DPF regeneration. This will eventually lead to a clogged DPF, severely restricted exhaust, and the vehicle entering a reduced-power limp mode.

What to check before replacing parts

Look for: With the key on and engine off (KOEO), the pressure should read zero; at idle, it should show a slight positive pressure that increases smoothly with engine RPM.

Look for: A steady 5 volts on the reference pin and less than 0.1 volts on the ground pin indicate the ECM and wiring are providing proper power.

Look for: Excessive backpressure indicates a physically clogged DPF that is causing the sensor to report out-of-range values.
