Alexander Auto Repair

You can believe me or not but my person belief is that this mechanic is completely dishonest based on the events described below. This is my honest opinion and this is a accurate description of what occurred. I am not making any claims without the evidence to my claim being very evident. Read and decide for yourself. My 84 year old mother went to him to get a new battery installed and while at the shop he told her that the vacuum booster pump was "gushing oil and covered the engine" and must have been done by Tire Kingdom who checked her battery the day prior. If this was true, the engine would have been without oil and the engine would have ceased on her way to Alexander Auto which is several miles away. He told her the cost of the repairs would be over $3000. He never gave her a written estimate and told her that her car is a piece of crap which was purchased 2 months ago and inspected by Lexus certified mechanic who is my brother in law and found a couple of small things he replaced but was otherwise in great condition. She even brought the car to Alexander Auto after buying the car and he said it is in great condition. Anyhow, she did not give him authorization to fix anything except replace the battery and at that point she involved me. I immediately believed based on the facts that he was scamming her and so did my brother in law who is the certified mechanic. She called Alexander Auto the next morning to tell him that she doesn't want him to do any work on the car, and he said he had already fixed everything and the parts alone cost over $1000. She informed me of this, so I called him and told him I know exactly what he is doing, and believe he is scamming my 84 year old mother (I highly suspect that he may be doing the same thing with the elderly people who live in the same building as my mom who trust him and recommend him to others). I told him I am aware of his scam and I am ready to get my attorney involved who is a well establish and known attorney in Indy. He told me the part was "gushing oil all over the place" and I told him if that was the case, the engine would have ceased or at least smoke from the oil would appear, pedals become very difficult to press, and left a puddle of oil under the car overnight but nothing was there. He quickly responded that he has a hard time understanding my mom and he is honest. He said my mom can come pick up the car without paying for anything. I offered to pay for the battery if he indeed he put a new one in, and he said he did but will not charge us. I had my mom pick up the car and have it inspected elsewhere who confirmed there couldn't have been an oil leak as parts just around the part he claimed to replace showed dirt and no oil even in places where it would have been almost impossible to clean, so he can not claim he cleaned the engine after fixing it. Also, the battery he placed in the car was a used battery but wanted to charge her over $200 (based on the invoice i demanded) as a new battery and tried to charge her $105 to install it. The invoice said the cost to fix it was 1050 and over 3k.If he was an honest person, he would have insisted on payment and not backed down so easily if he had truly put in the time and costs he claimed. Unfortunately, he is not part of the BBB otherwise I would have filed a complaint. He knows what he is doing and I will not accept that or stand by idle. I will be filing a complaint with the Office of the Indiana Attorney General (Consumer Protection Division), Indiana Secretary of State (SOS), and Adult Protective Services (APS). Was referred to them when seeking car repair. Have not been disappointed, and used them since. Have referred them to others, and they have been very happy as well. Fair pricing. Knowledgeable staff. Don't "over - sell" you on unneeded repairs/expenses.

Not too many times I have the chance to speak highly of people's honesty and high ethical standards, however this review is being written because these guys are HONEST---that's a real rarity in todays world. They could price gouge you like many others do but this place will not. They are fair, upfront and take the time to explain on your level. One of the few mechanic shops that I can speak this highly of. This is where I would tell my 85yr old mother to go.....I trust these guys!

I have been using this auto repair and maintenance shop, with few interruptions since 2008. They are honest, reliable and priced fairly. If they are unable to complete the work, they will direct me to a shop they trust. Recently, my spouse attempted to get a vehicle repaired at a different shop (because it is closer to our house and an acquaintance owns it) and was left with loosened hose clamps and shotty work. We will stick with Alexander Auto Repair now.

They are upfront and honest about the issue of your car. Dealers charge an arm and a leg for needed repairs but these guys are extremely reliable and trustworthy and inexpensive!!!!
