Fair Muffler & Brake Shop

The only reason I am giving this place 1 star is because of the receptionist, Denise. Unfortunately, my experience with her was extremely unprofessional and unwelcoming. I came in to have my muffler checked, and upon arrival, Denise asked for the make of my car and my name. After I provided that information, she immediately asked for my keys and told us to move aside without explaining the process, what would happen next, or even asking for a contact number. As new customers, this was confusing and frustrating. Handing over your car keys without any explanation is not standard customer service. When I politely asked for clarification, her response was dismissive and rude. She simply said, “That’s what everyone does,” without offering any further explanation. This kind of attitude is unacceptable, especially when dealing with customers who are unfamiliar with your business. I then asked to speak to a manager and was told there wasn’t one available. However, as we were leaving, I spoke to a gentleman outside Javier who turned out to be the manager. He was professional, kind, and took the initiative to help us right away. He clearly explained the process and had everything taken care of in under 30 minutes. While I truly appreciate the manager’s help, the initial interaction left a very negative impression. First impressions matter, and the way Denise handled the situation was enough to make me not want to return. Customer service especially in a small business should be built on respect, communication, and kindness. I hope this is taken seriously and improvements are made. Do better Denise.

Do not come here for a custom exhaust, no matter who recommends them. Took 4 visits for them to fix all the leaks, and they had a rotten attitude by the 3rd. I was quoted about $1200 dollars for a dual exhaust. I payed them $200+ for each of the $50 flowmasters they had in stock. I wanted quiet exhaust, but they refused to charge me any less if I went with the bare bones walker mufflers. So, they successfully upsold me on mufflers I didn't want. They are complete hacks and specialize in exhaust leaks. Do not waist your valuable time there, let alone money. They dont count on people checking their work and Im still furious with what an awful job they did. I got 2.25 pipes and the donut gaskets they used have less than a 1.75" inner diameter. Even though, I brought them the correct ones. I assumed they used them, but they just pocketed them. They hardly flared the pipe at the manifold, so im gonna have a hell of a time getting the correct ones in. Might, have to drop the whole thing and pay another muffler shop to fix their...well, I dont want to call it a mistake. Down pipes also line up with the manifolds like garbage. Exhaust pipe pinched around the TC even though They said they could do it without pinching. Hangers welded to frame with no way to remove them without cutting. Buy it nice or buy it twice. Don't bother with their name or reputation.

BUYER BEWARE THIS PLACE IS A SCAM AND WILL TRY TO CHEAT YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY 💰💰 They tried to charge me almost $800 for an alternator for a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country. I went down the road to Robertos Auto Shop 1608 Washington St, Waukegan, IL 60085. They gave me a fair deal and was honest. Roberto charged me $400 what a huge difference. I do think the people at Fair Muffler & Brake Shop are nice people but that's not cool to cheat hardworking people. That's what wrong with our country. Too many people willing to cheat the next person just to help themselves. My advice is, do your research before you go to this shop🙏 This is a response to the owner. Thank you so much for responding to my post. I would like to say I do believe the people at your establishment are really nice people. While I was there I saw an elderly lady come in and they took her ahead of everyone. That was commendable because a lot of businesses wouldn't care. However in my case I don't think the price i was quoted was in keeping with being good business people. The price of a brand new alternator is $200 so to charge me almost $800 is a complete rip off and seems kind of like they were trying to inflate the price. Exhaust for 10 cyl. Excursion, requires 2 7/8 dia. They installed 1 1/2" dia. exhaust system. Not to be trusted with your vehicle... what they did is going to be scrapped & redone elsewhere.

I am very pleased with the entire process... Not sure why people are saying the receptionists aren't friendly... I had a very pleasant experience with the two ladies I spoke with... Also the time frame was faster than I could've hoped for... I have not been underneath my vehicle to inspect their work but I will when the weather breaks... I have a full year warranty on all work performed like most placed and they beat all the previous quotes I got for complete exhaust work on my 2016 Chevy Equinox... The only thing not replaced was my rear muffler... So from manifold to the rear muffler was replaced for under $700 which from the other quotes I got was a really good price!!! I would recommend them to anyone needing exhaust work and will be my go to for any exhaust work I need in the future... Keep up the good work!!!
