Gerald & Charlie's Auto Machine Shop

My custom car was at a local speed shop having diagnostics done on the engine. I had to have a suspect valve spring tested right NOW. The place we usually take this work is a 45 minute drive. I looked this place up and gave them a call - they said they could do it while I wait, and that is something I NEVER hear from a engine shop. I got there in 12 minutes, met a man named Joe, who immediately dropped what he was doing and started working with me on the spring measuring that I asked for, and doing a good job of it. I got my information and asked him how much I owed him, and he said, "Nothing". I took care of Joe anyway and thanked him profusely for his quick service on such short notice. As luck would have it, later in the day, we determined we needed more info on the spring. It was close to 5 pm, but I called him and told him I needed him again and he said he would wait past closing for me. I was so happy that Joe was agreeable, because I am out the area and would have had to deal with this spring problem again the next day, and having to travel a long distance to the speed shop again. I hit heavy rain on the way to Joe's shop and it slowed me down, but Joe was waiting for me when I got there. He took care of me once again. I can't say enough good about Joe and his service, and I will use his shop whenever the need arises. He earned my respect and recommendation the good way.

This place is a joke. I dropped off at 454 big block Chevy and it took them almost 5 months to get it back to me. They basically decided that they had a blank check to build this engine and proceeded to replace whatever parts they wanted, even parts that were not asked to be replaced since we already had them (timing cover, harmonic balancer, gaskets, etc) and They threatened my customer when he went into pay, and was told a total that he never agreed to and they told him they would not honor any warranties that they said they would provide. I also dropped off a 5.7 l hemi that they took 4 months to build, and gave it back to me with bad lifter tick, and the timing misaligned. Joe proceeded to argue with my customer and myself and said that he was not responsible for warranting the engine even after his employee admitted that it was his fault. Joe is extremely unprofessional, disrespectful, confrontational and does not care about his customers. The only way to get them to honor any sort of warranty is to threaten them with legal action, or even take legal action. As a professional mechanic of close to 20 years, I've never seen someone that calls himself a professional treat a customer this way. There are plenty of other, better machine shops to take care of business to. I highly recommend avoiding this place like the plague

I dropped off a GM 3.8 engine along with new replacement parts for a teardown and evaluation of what's needed from a spun bearing. I was told I'd receive a call with an estimate. 3 weeks passed and no call. I called them, and was told they will have an estimate soon. 2 weeks later no estimate. I called again and spoke to the shop manager about this. The next business day Renee called and told me 4100 dollars to repair. I declined, as a completely remanufactured unit is the same cost. They told me in order to pick up my engine, I had to pay them 1100 dollars for "what they've got into it already". I did not authorize any repairs and refused to pay. They kept all my new parts and my engine. So because Renee failed to give me an estimate multiple times, they decided to keep my engine. I do not recommend this place at all.

These guys are extremely unprofessional. The owner does not care about his customers, and will talk shit about his customers to everyone he sees. As a professional mechanic of over 15 years, I would never use this company again. They had my customers 5.7 hemi for over 4 months, gave it back and it had timing issues, and a lifter knock that wasn't present before. They messed up my customers engine, refused to warranty it, until threatened with legal action, and even then they still put up a fight.

My engine needed to be rebuilt so my mechanic suggested Gerald & Charlie's shop, after nearly 4 months my engine was finally rebuilt and my mechanic put the engine back in my truck and it threw codes so he called me to give me the unfortunate news. He explained that the engine had internal issues and would need to be pulled out again. The mechanic communicated this to the shop explaining that the engine would need to be pulled out again and it would not be fair to have the customer pay to have it pulled out again since the customer had not even received the truck yet, after arguing back and forth the mechanic told me i would need to deal with the machine shop (Gerald and Charlie), so i called and spoke to the owner and he told me that my mechanic did'nt know what he was talking about and that he did'nt like my mechanic and wanted to get a second opinion from a mechanic of his choice, so he sent a mechanic to diagnose the engine at my mechanic's shop and the mechanic agreed with my mechanic saying it was internal issue caused by Gerald & Charlie, the shop owner then tried to argue with me saying he should'nt have to pay to remove the engine because i suggested he use some original parts that were not damaged, well that was a lie everything he told me that needed to be replaced i paid for being that im not an expert and was willing to pay to have the engine built correctly and with out arguing. He said he would pay a different mechanic to pull my engine because he did'nt like my mechanic which is very unprofessional in my opinion to tell a customer that and a week later still had not found anybody to pull the engine so after nearly 5 months of my truck sitting while im paying for a rental car i told him i needed my truck running and i had paid up front for the entire rebuild and still have a truck sitting there with a broke engine so i told him either pay my mechanic to pull the engine or i would take legal action so he agreed to pay my mechanic to pull the engine and told me he would video the engine to prove it was not the shop's fault and that my mechanic didnt know how to hook everything back up correctly, the only reason they get a 1 star is because after they took the engine apart they found that several things were wrong and admitted it was on them. Finally from May to October i finally got my truck running thanks to Thomas Automotive Services. Danny is a very honest mechanic and had made sure that when i received my truck that it would being running the way it should have with a new engine. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GERALD &CHARILES to get your engine rebuilt save yourself the hassle and time and of course your money!!!!
