Speedy Smog

Beware people of San Pedro and the surrounding South Bay area ! This shop is crooked, and are not in business to provide service. The only reason this place is speedy is because they have NO business. If I could give "0" stars I would give negative 100 million stars. I would like to reiterate "This smog shop is CROOKED.!" I had to return within 30 days for a retest and was told I had to pay them more money when I returned for the retest and I could only go back to Speedy Smog. I returned to speedy Smog within the 30 days and the only tech who knows how to operate was not there and only works Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 10am- 4pm. I called hoping I would talk to management or someone who has some type of authority and told them that my car was repaired and since they didn't have a tech I would be past the 30 days cause the tech works only a few days a week. The man on the phone said it would be okayto return and he would honor the retest for $44.00 and when my friend returned to Speedy Smog for a re-test on Wednesday the only guy who knew how to run the machine was not there. They LIED! My friend went back on Thursday and the tech was there and said he was going to charge double. I feel taken advantage and decided that I am not going to give this corrupt place one more penny. I'd rather give my money to another smog shop who has a workforce that is honest, realiable, and knowledgeable. The workers at Speedy Smog in San Pedro are the bottom of the barrel, far from an A team. I plan to file a report with the Bureau of Automotive Repair.

EDIT: Jan 25, 2025 Look I'm going to be the first person to admit that not every day is my best day. And it is in acknowledging this that I must also acknowledge that this owner wasn't having his best day. It's unfortunate that this situation escalated the way it did, but on the other hand, after I complained to the Automotive Bureau, an investigation into my issue ensued revealing that 1) the worker in charge of performing my vehicle's smog check made a mistake of unclear nature, and 2) the DMV received the smog check, meaning it was performed, but we never got the righrt paperwork. I had to pay another place to smog my car and get it registered. I had to go out of my way to complain about this place. But after it was all said and done, and the Automotive Bureau checked in, the owner cut me a check for the amount I paid them. It is in the nature of the fact that the owner decided to make me whole again that I am changing my review to reflect that. HOWEVER. If they had their shit together I wouldn't have had to go through this bullshit in the first place. But the fact that they cut me a check for my damages makes me feel like their business need not suffer from a low review. Everyone makes mistakes. This small business owner made it right, after an investigation ensued. The fact that they didn't make it right to begin with without me complaining is why it's a 4 star, not a 5 star. Take your chances on this spot, I won't be again (how often do I need to smog a car anyway?). ---- Original Review In February these guys did a smog on my vehicle, and it passed and all was well or so we thought. Fast forward and we noticed the smog report for the vehicle was not for the one we own but a Toyota we’ve never heard of. We came by to get it fixed and the owner says we brought the Toyota in and it’s our mistake. This is not the case. We brought our vehicle in not the one their staff erroneously provided us a smog certificate for. They basically stole my money. Image provided of the person I had to deal with.

This place is awesome. Super easy in and out. Great customer service. Clean shop. Staff was wonderful. Kim the technician was the best part of the visit. Super knowledgeable super helpful. I was having such a great conversation with him. I stayed 20 minutes extra. I will definitely be taking all of my cars here in the future and recommending it to all of my friends.
