I am writing to share my recent experience with Pengo, not sure if they still retiring, but in case they are not please be aware. I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years. In August 2025, when I brought my car in, it appeared that the owners were preparing for retirement. There were signs posted regarding the sale or lease of the business, and they seemed optimistic and excited about the transition. While I was saddened at the thought of them leaving, I was genuinely happy for them after so many years of service. However, my experience in December 2025 was very different. When I returned for a repair, I noticed a significant change in their demeanor. Both seemed visibly frustrated. While waiting, I asked the wife how things were going, and she shared that they had been receiving low offers and that retirement might not happen anytime soon. Shortly after, the husband returned with my car keys, tossed them on the desk, and briefly stated that my car did not pass smog before walking away. I had to step outside to ask for further details. During that conversation, he asked where I got the car. I explained it had been given to me by a friend, but he responded in a mocking tone, suggesting my friend might not really be a “friend,” and claimed the catalytic converter was not good. When I reviewed the paperwork, I saw that the vehicle failed due to a visual inspection. This was confusing, as the car had passed a smog check less than 10 months earlier. I also had printed records of previous smog checks and repairs, so the failure did not make sense. When I asked about repair costs, I was quoted $985. Since it was the week of Christmas, I told him I would return the following week, however, after paying for the failed test and returning to my car, I noticed that the printout provided appeared to show a previous failed smog result in the back side for a different vehicle—a Toyota Tacoma. This raised serious concerns about whether there had been a mix-up or error in my case. As a result, I contacted the California Bureau of Automotive Repair the following week for assistance, and the matter was ultimately resolved. As a long-time customer, I had built trust in this business—even overlooking past instances where recommended repairs I declined were still added to my bill. Unfortunately, my recent experience was disappointing, unprofessional, and not the level of service I expected after many years of loyalty.

Have been using Pengo for our family car needs for over 15 years. One of the best auto shop in the local area in my opinion. Mr. Peng is always very honest and professional about our car issues. He is honest about what really needs to be fixed and provides good recommendations on the options. Good quality service and affordable prices (compared to many other auto shops in the area...). Highly recommended their auto shop!

Have taken my vehicles and recommend them to my friends. They do great work and have never had a problem with anything. The owner is a real nice guy, and takes the time to explain whats wrong, what he suggests to do, and why. Like I said....never a problem. Just great service, at a fair price with honest people. Cant ask for anything more...

This review is way overdue. For the past four years we have been blessed with having our older model car cared for by the experts at Pengo. The pricing is reasonable and you can count on the quality of any repairs that are done at their establishment for you Today, I had to go in alone for the first time. I was a bit nervous knowing many repair shops take advantage of women like me who don’t know much about cars. That absolutely DID NOT happen at Pengo. I received the same affordable, quality service my husband and I had come to expect from Pengo. The thing I appreciate most is that you will be informed of any necessary upcoming repairs, but you are in no way pressured to have them done. In my experience, if Pengo recommends a service for your car, the recommendation is given so you can have your car running as soundly as possible for as long as possible I am very grateful for the wonderful folks at Pengo!

Very disappointed! I was still under warranty and they did not honor their work! They wanted to charge me $95 to check my car again. The codes that my car was giving, were due to the repairs that were done. The funny thing is that when I first went there, they were eager to help me, because they were going to take my money. Then after, they did not want to check the car. They just lost a good customer. Tired of getting ripped off!!!!!!! I PAID THEM $280🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
