We had to bring our 2023 Peterbilt 579 (444,000 miles) to S.E. Smith & Sons after going into full derate due to a failing DEF pump. We had a final-mile delivery due that night and made the urgency clear — yet the turnaround time still dragged on longer than expected. While the repair got us back on the road, the pricing and transparency were extremely disappointing: • DEF pump was charged at $1,812.50, way above the typical market price ($1,000–$1,300). • Labor came out to $880 (at $220/hr) — extremely high for a standard two-hour job. • Parts surcharge of 18% was added, with no refund on the DEF pump core, despite them keeping it. • They added 2.5 gallons of DEF fluid without our approval and charged over $50 for it. • Final total: $3,028.99, compared to a typical $2,000–$2,200 job elsewhere. We approved the initial estimate under pressure because the truck was minutes from shutting down — but that doesn’t justify the inflated pricing. Their justification for the surcharge (saying others mark up 40%) felt misleading. Even my regular mechanic confirmed this job was at least $800–$1,000 overcharged. If you’re in an emergency, they might get the job done — but be prepared to overpay significantly. If you have any flexibility or time to call around, I’d strongly suggest going elsewhere.

It ended up taking them almost 6 hours. Don't think I will ever come back or refer this shop to anyone else that I know. Lazy & not trust worthy.
