First time using West Seattle Auto works. Definitely a very good experience. My previous mechanic of 20 years retired, and I was nervous about finding a new place. Had a strange rattling noise under my car after hitting a box that fell off a recycling truck right in front of me. Long story short I was worried it wrecked something under my car. The people here were easy to schedule, Fast in responding and communicated clearly, diagnosed the problem. And were fair on price. I believe I have found my new mechanic! Highly recommend. Also, easy location to drop the car and catch a bus to work.

My 2002 Tacoma had some metal springs in the oil the last time I changed the oil at home so I did a lot of research and found that it was the valve stem seals that needed to be replaced. I also decided to get the valves adjusted or checked for adjustments since this work needed to be done on the valve stem seals and made an appointment with another shop in downtown Seattle to do a valve adjustment and replace the valve stem seals. On the day of the appointment when I got there the other shop said they don't do that kind of work so I was pretty irritated and left. I drove straight over to West Seattle Auto Works since I only live a few blocks away and they said "yeah sure we can do the work." The work took about a week and a half which was actually less time than they originally thought it would, and the price did go up from the original estimate I had in my own head, but these guys were very good with communicating with me whenever they found something or whenever they recommended additional work be done like replacing the timing belt and water pump. There were no secrets or no runaway costs encountered in this job, and no bait and switch tactics. I paid about $7,200 for basically a top-end engine rebuild on an engine that had 240,000 miles, and it's running absolutely wonderful now. It's probably getting 7% to 10% better fuel economy based on the averages I have seen on my ScanGauge real time ECU computer in my truck cab. I've been to West Seattle Auto Works many times before when I had a 2004 Tacoma and they always did a good job and kept me in the loop when they did the work if anything changed, and because it's a local small business with the good reputation, I knew I had nothing to worry about. Highly recommend if you're new to town or just haven't established a relationship with a good neighborhood mechanic, I would definitely contact West Seattle Auto Works and would recommend them to anybody

Pros: We able to properly diagnose my issue and repair it. Price seemed reasonable. Cons: Broke my hood latch during the repairs and didn't let me know. Staff has been pretty cold. I found another local mechanic I like better and haven't been back. My issue is: they continue to be awful neighbors. They consistently, if not daily, park cars on the sidewalk and right of way. I have watched people roll into the street just to get by. The other day, I got off the bus and had only a foot or two to slide between one of their parked cars and the bus, creating a rather dangerous situation. I have asked staff in person to do something about this, and my neighbors have recently complained to the city. They own Swedish Automotive 2 blocks down which has a private lot, and can also use street parking, but they don't.

Reached out to WSA for installation of a Hellwig anti-sway bar that I wanted installed on my new truck. I already have the kit and they agreed to do it that day. One hour later it was done. Appreciate the quick work and boy do I like how much more planted it feels in the rear. Thanks guys!

I have been going to West Seattle Autoworks for over 12 years now. They have worked on everything from muscle cars and pickup trucks to small commuter cars, for my household. And we have been happy with their work every time. I think the most important thing you can find in a mechanic is trust. And I have total trust in WSA when I leave my cars with them. I never feel pressed or cheated. They call with questions and/or updates. I can not recommend them enough. Great people, great work!
