Austin Highway Transmission

An adequate mechanic does not make a good businessman. In the past 6 months, I've spent $1.5k at Leo's Shop where he replaced my transmission and replaced my clutch slave cylinder with the original after not spotting that the "new" CSC was leaking. $900 to remove the transmission twice which should have only been dropped once. I didn't complain. Asked him to replace my AC discharge line as I noticed it was leaking, and came in with the new part in hand. He agreed. He then decided to evacuate and refill the "Freon" (R134A) a service which I did not ask for, a service he was not authorized to perform, and his excuse was that it was "common sense". $129 charge for an unauthorized service which other good business men and women would have just smartly credited the customer to maintain the long term relationship (I can fill my own R134A in 5 min for $30). The AC was still leaking after his shop's "repair", was malfunctional, and I came back to the shop to discuss a credit as I only paid the unauthorized charge because he assured me it was fixed. He did not want to make a credit as he did not see it as an error on his part because it was "common sense". Mechanics should as a good business practice not perform services that they are not authorized to do. But more importantly, it just is not good business. For example, on average I spend $2,000 annually on car repairs and maintenance. The net present value of this expense stream from here until I die to a repair shop, at a 10% discount rate, is $20,000. In this case, Leo gave up a $20k asset (my expense stream of being a loyal returning customer) to save $129 retail, his actual cost of the service is probably $20. This is the financial calculation that drives smart businesses to work so hard to maintain their customer base as returning happy customers fill your pocket with cash in both the short and long run. I will not be doing business with Austin Highway Transmission because although his mechanics may be adequate in his run down shop, he as a business man is incompetent when it comes to understanding how to make his business run a profit. I predict he'll be out of business in the coming years due to financial incompetence and I do not recommend doing business with him unless you enjoy paying for others mistakes.

Do not use Austin Hwy Transmission for any service work. Completely incompetent mechanics. My rebuilt transmission does not shift properly and was installed incorrectly. Transfer case was installed wrong which burned up the encoder motor. Now I am paying double to fix the transmission and replace the transfer case encoder motor. Leo not willing to refund any money to make things right. Do yourself a favor and go to a reputable and knowledgeable shop.

Leo and his crew have taken care of several of my vehicles. I find him very trustworthy and reasonable.

Good service , they change the wipers of my dad van , and check the oil ,air tires thanks for the service it was great I would like to go back soon 😀

I wouldn't definitely not recommend this place at all he charge me a lot of money for the gas pump, lots of issues that at the end my truck end up with more broken than fix , people don't go to this place saving you a headache
