They found the problem with my van quickly (single front wheel bearing) and were able to replace it that day. Very reasonable. Very friendly. Referred to me by some people I hold in high regard. Will do business with them again for sure.

So this is the letter I was planning on writing them directly or possibly the better Business bureau. To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to formally lodge a complaint against Ellis Auto Sales & Service, Chapman Highway, Seymour, TN, regarding work performed on my truck in [Month, Year]. Summary of Events My vehicle was running smoothly before I took it in. I was charged approximately $1,100 for what I was told was a “tune-up” (oil, oil filter, spark plugs, rear brake pads, etc.). Within three weeks of their work, my truck was dead in my driveway. Upon later inspection by another mechanic, it was found that: The oil filter seal had been twisted, suggesting it was not properly installed. A bolt was missing near the oil pan area. These issues likely caused catastrophic oil loss and engine damage. Concerns 1. Overcharging: Multiple mechanics have since told me that over $1,000 for this level of work is extreme. I trusted this shop to be fair and honest, but I was clearly taken advantage of. 2. Poor workmanship: A simple error like failing to seat an oil filter correctly should not happen at a professional shop. At best this was incompetence, at worst it was reckless disregard for the customer. Either way, it directly led to my truck’s failure. 3. Impact on my life: This isn’t just about a truck. This has disrupted my ability to get to work, provide for my child, and maintain my wellbeing. The consequences go far beyond an invoice—they have put a serious strain on my livelihood. Requested Resolution A full or partial refund of the $1,100 charged, given the work was not done properly. Reasonable consideration for the damage caused to my vehicle due to improper service. I am not writing this lightly. I trusted Ellis Auto because of the reputation of its late founder, and I regret that trust was misplaced. If this matter is not addressed, I will have no choice but to continue sharing my story publicly and to file formal complaints with the Tennessee Division of Consumer Affairs, the Better Business Bureau, and Small Claims Court if necessary. I would prefer to resolve this directly and fairly. Please contact me within 14 days of this letter to discuss resolution. I've known Gene and Tim from delivering for oriellys auto part's, they are honest and dependable. I took my sons car in and they found the problem was a catalytic converter and 4 plugs it runs fine now it was in and out in one day.
