By 2020 through 2022, the pattern shifts again toward oil consumption and interior hardware: excessive oil consumption appears in both 2021 (17 occurrences) and 2022 (26), an overhead console detachment issue affects 31 owners in 2020, and 2022 stands out as the single highest-volume year in the whole range at 244 total occurrences — led by 49 reports of lane-departure system malfunctions — despite having zero problems flagged at safety severity, a contrast to the mid-2010s years where the issues were fewer but more serious.
For a used Tiguan, the year matters more than usual here: confirm any applicable recall campaign was completed for 2011, 2018, or 2019 specifically, and expect oil consumption to be the bigger concern on 2020-2022 examples. These are owner-filed complaint counts rather than a measured failure rate, and a pre-purchase inspection with full service history is the more reliable guide regardless of which year is under consideration.
