Throttle response dominates the current-generation Tundra's complaint record from 2022 onward: hesitation or lag under acceleration shows up as a top complaint in every single year through 2025. The worst year by volume is 2022, at 242 total complaints, 44 of them describing throttle lag or hesitation directly and another 19 describing acceleration hesitation from a stop; add 20 reports of engine stall during deceleration and 18 of engine stall at idle tied to the stop-start system, and stalling in various forms touches most of the year's top complaints. A long list of recall campaigns applies to 2022, including 22V285, 22V501, 22V661, and 23V566, among several others.

2023 continues the pattern at 196 total complaints, but with more safety severity: vehicle speed control delays lead at 60 reports, followed by 27 more describing stop-start stalling, both safety-rated, and additional reports of engine knocking, seizure, and outright power loss while driving. Recalls including 23V566, 23V757, and 24V125 carry over from the prior year.

By 2024, throttle lag and highway-speed stalling persist (28 and 24 reports) but no complaint that year is rated safety-severity, and a fuel gauge malfunction and engine failure during towing round out a shorter list; six recall campaigns are on file, including 24V548 and 26V179. The trend continues into 2025, a smaller year at 55 total complaints but still led by throttle response delay (20 reports), under recall 26V179.

The oldest year here, 2018, belongs to a different vehicle generation with its own distinct issues: three of its top five complaints — pre-collision system malfunction, integrated brake controller failure, and electronic stability control malfunction — are safety-rated, under a cluster of six separate recalls including 18V685 and 21V920.

Given how persistent throttle lag and stalling are across the newer generation, a test drive should include hard acceleration from a stop and monitoring engine behavior at highway speed, and a buyer should confirm which of the many recall campaigns tied to their specific model year have been completed. These are owner-filed complaint counts rather than a measured failure rate, so pairing that recall check with an independent inspection is the most reliable path forward regardless of year.
