The 2016 model year alone logs 1,043 complaints, and a single problem — engine hesitation and stalling, rated safety-critical — accounts for 650 of them by itself, an outsized share that dwarfs everything else in this comparison. Transmission shifting problems lead at 135 reports, a nearly identical dual-clutch transmission hesitation on acceleration adds 131, and a third complaint describing acceleration lag from a stopped position — logged under the fuel system rather than transmission — contributes another 131 and carries the safety flag. A fourth dual-clutch transmission complaint (111 reports, also safety-rated) and excessive oil consumption (110 reports) round out a year where hesitation and lag under acceleration are described from at least four different angles. Like 2016, no recall campaigns appear against this year in the data.
The earliest year, 2015, is comparatively modest at 143 complaints, with engine seizure (25 reports) and recall repair parts being unavailable (25 reports) — tied to recall 23V651 — leading a list that also includes brake hydraulic issues (23 reports) and engine knocking (17 reports).
Given how heavily 2016 and 2017 both concentrate on stalling, hesitation, and transmission lag under acceleration, and given that neither year shows a documented recall addressing it, this is a pattern worth testing for directly during a low-speed and stop-and-go test drive. These numbers are owner-filed reports rather than a measured defect rate, but the sheer concentration here — one complaint type accounting for well over half a model year's total — is itself a meaningful signal, and a pre-purchase inspection focused on acceleration response is well warranted.
