Across 2015 through 2018 the totals stay high and remarkably level — 576, 644, 674, and 553 reported occurrences — and the top complaints barely change names. 2015 leads with transmission jerking and shuddering (170 reports) and clutch malfunction (143), with transmission clutch failure reports rated at safety severity. 2016's single biggest item is transmission overheating at 333 reports, half its file, backed by clutch failure (94). 2017, the heaviest year, is topped by dual clutch transmission failure (142), slipping and hesitation during acceleration (92), and clutch actuator failure (59). 2018 owners reported clutch failure requiring multiple repairs (111) — that phrase alone tells you how this problem tends to go — plus transmission control module malfunctions (68).

The recall sheet is long and, notably, still growing. Campaigns against these years include 18V169000, 18V735000, 18V845000, 19V515000, and 23V905000, with a cluster of 2026-dated campaigns — 26V011000, 26V012000, 26V369000, and 26V376000 — applying across multiple years. Owners also complained about the recall process itself: 60 reports in 2018 concern check-engine lights tied to recall issues, and 47 more describe engine and cooling recall repairs being delayed. Run any candidate's VIN through NHTSA's lookup and treat open campaigns as a to-do list for the selling dealer, not a footnote.

Buying advice is straightforward: the test drive is a clutch evaluation. Drive in stop-and-go traffic, watch for shudder on takeoff, hesitation, and jerky engagement, and ask for records of clutch or control module replacements — many of these cars have had them.

Complaint counts are owner filings with NHTSA rather than measured failure rates, later years have had less time to accumulate reports, and no year here stands out as the clean one. The individual car's transmission service history and a pre-purchase inspection matter far more than which of these four years you choose.
