For 2016, owners most often reported engine overheating (23), check engine lights appearing without warning (15), stalls while driving (13), stop-start system failures (9), and coolant system leaks (7). The 2017 file adds engine misfire and cylinder failure (19 reports) at the top, followed by dashboard-related electrical malfunctions (18), stalls at idle tied to the stop-start system (17), a brake malfunction causing instability (11), and, more benignly, water finding its way into the trunk (8). Taken together, the data suggests a used Cruze deserves attention to two things above all: the cooling system, where overheating and coolant leaks recur in every year, and stall behavior, particularly around the stop-start system on the later cars.
