It also carries a long campaign list — seven recalls, including 18V732, 19V513, and 25V644 — so recall status matters as much as mechanical condition here.
The 2010's smaller file concentrates on two things: airbag system failure, the year's safety-severity item at 27 reports, and engine stalling, which appears in several forms — 19 reports of stalls during operation plus seven more attributed to fuel system failure, alongside a handful of overheating and coolant leak complaints. Seven campaigns apply to this year as well, including 16V746 and 23V707.
Taken together: older X5s in this data skew toward stalling and airbag concerns, the 2019 toward oil pump and starter trouble, and the 2024 toward brake and stability electronics. Remember what these numbers are — complaints owners filed with NHTSA, not measured failure rates — and note that the 2024's total grew that large despite having had the least time on the road, which is worth weighing without panicking over. Any individual car's condition, documented service history, completed recall work, and a thorough pre-purchase inspection will tell you more than the model year printed on the door jamb.
