Oakmont Automotive

Oakmont Automotive is a straight up honest business. I wouldn’t have my truck serviced any place else. I recently got a flat tire and needed a new one. Chuck went first thing in the morning to his supplier personally and had me a new tire within an hour, not too many people would do that. Oakmont Automotive has a great team of very knowledgeable, helpful and skilled technicians. And Chuck truly enjoys helping people and cares about his customers.

In my opinion this shop has Bad faith practices. Previously I called around to get a quote for a recharge on my AC, I called Oakmont Automotive, unfortunately for me I received a pretty great quote. $170 for a servicing that included the cost of labor, draining, freon, and overall service/inspection of the system. As a nice bonus if the system required less refrigerant than expected, the price would jump down to $150, nice. Well as it turns out a Schrader valve was bad on my system and was leaking, when a Schrader valve leaks it’s very obvious through the noise and bubbles you can see, as a bonus the bubbles were also dyed so even a kindergartner would notice the bad being part immediately. Well turns out it was noticed rather quickly and the operation was shut down due to the inability for them to get a part on the same day. Everything previously mentioned is completely normal and nothing weird about the situation, what is weird is when we get into the billing. So since we already established the fact this issue was solved very quickly, wouldn’t take long especially considering my system came in 100% empty so there was no draining that even occurred, and additionally since we established it’s very easy to hear and see a Schrader valve being bad. This whole process did not take over an hour to complete. Well I was shocked to hear that after I was given a run down of the situation I was to be charged $150 and that’s with my car leaving the shop the same way it came in. I figured I would be able to walk in and talk with someone, clearly the previously quoted price of $150 was for if the car took less refrigeration than expected. That is not the same quote for if they couldn’t get a $13 part where I would have to pick my car up and leave, still with no AC. I arrived to talk with one of the mechanics that was running invoices, he was very understanding and easy to work with but he couldn’t give the okay to budge on the price, he needed to call the manager. After he tried to explain my position, the manager was not having it and I needed to talk to him myself. The manager’s original position was, everything that occurred took either an hour or over, and the deal for the inconvenience was I get the opportunity to come back on a later date, with a part that I bought and they would replace and service for $130. Not a great deal and very very different from the $170 price point, just because a $13 part was introduced (150+130=280). This was a deal I was supposed to be happy with, I wasn’t and I gave some push back. Not to get into too many details after a 30 minute conversation with a brick wall (the manager) he conceded to the idea that maybe the leak was identified faster than he previously claimed. The price was changed to $80 for the service which is still pretty high considering the outcome being unsatisfactory but I get it, he really needs the money and I’m not here to make people go hungry. But like I previously mentioned, in my opinion this shop is run in bad faith. I believe if I didn’t have years of experience in the mechanical world I wouldn’t have known that this original quote was wrong. Also me knowing this quote was an issue why did it take a 30 minute debate just for it to be fair, at the end of the day my car left the same way it came in, the only thing that wasn’t the same was my wallet. I would strongly recommend looking around at other options, this was not an ideal way to start a Saturday and I believe if I went to any other shop, they wouldn’t have tried to over quote the labor. I’ll be posting photos of the numbers and how they magically changed through the process of someone who in has heavy amounts of experience in the mechanical world talking with a manager, to get the right price figured out.

I needed a new battery in my BMW and the auto parts store who tested it was unable to replace it. Fortunately, the regional manager was there and recommended Oakmont Automotive. It was Saturday morning and I was sure they wouldn't be able to take me. However, I was greeted by a very professional gentleman who told me they would fit me in. Less than an hour later I drove out with a new battery installed. The price was reasonable and the service exceeded my expectations. While they our a bit out of the way, I will be back.

Almost took my life. My family has bought 2 vehicles advertised through this shop and serviced many vehicles here over the last 15-20 years. Never again. Replaced dead battery, then didn’t start next day. Towed at my expense, replaced starter, didn’t start upon returning home. Started next day and was fine for a couple of months, then no start again. Quoted for more electrical work that was obviously damaged during the first two “repairs” and decided to go elsewhere. Has been starting just fine since a small fuse was replaced upon last no-start. I don’t drive the car often as I have a work vehicle. Had to take the car to school last night due to work vehicle being in another shop, no work completed after last quote because it was starting just fine. 60 mph down the highway and I lose all power including lights, brakes and steering: throwing me between highway barriers, deploying air bags, and nearly taking my life. Last shop to perform work? This one. Are they 100% at fault? Maybe not, but I would think twice about your livelihood before having your vehicle serviced here. Clearly; no longer of the same quality that kept my family returning for so many years. Be safe and go elsewhere.

This is the worst company I've ever had to deal with and wish I spent my money elsewhere. These people are hard to deal with. The owners are rude and always work as a team to flip what was said to what they perceive in their minds. You say the sky is blue an they would hear green then both attack you to say "you said it was green". I know one has bad hearing with aides but the other doesn't and still only hears what they want. The shady business practice they have done for 30 years needs to be investigated. Hopefully people figure this all out before making their decision to give this business another penny.
