2009 Mazda CX-7, near death. Muffler rusted out and severed at the rear. Replacing that muffler would be many thousands of dollars because it stretches the full length of the car. I brought it to Joe, Dr. Joe early one morning & explained that the car is in bad shape but I need to keep it going a bit longer. He very quickly and very creatively fixed the muffler for extraordinarily less than I would’ve ever guessed. In addition, he replaced a front tie rod, which was really barely hanging on. Joe is incredibly personable, very knowledgeable & just an all-around decent great guy. Most importantly he’s an extraordinary mechanic. I am so grateful that someone recommended I take my car to Total Performance. Everyone there is so nice.

I waited over a month to write this review and I’ll explain why. I have an ‘07 Chevy with 43k miles, the a/c wasn’t working so I made an appointment and dropped it off around 8am, didn’t receive a call until 4:30pm telling me the car was ready and I had a half hour to pick it up,No call telling me what was wrong or how much all day. I asked what was wrong with it and how much. The receptionist said cash or charge? I asked why? She said you get a better price with cash. Ok cash how much? $250 ok I asked what was wrong with it, she said NOTHING, there was no Freon in it it was bone dry - so what was $250? “Oh we had to empty it then refill it and added a special dye and blah blah” I said fine and rushed over to pick up the car. I interrupted her cigarette break and Joe had a hard time looking up from his phone to answer questions. I paid and receipt said no leaks found…at this time . Ok whatever I finally get his attention and he says if it leaks bring it back. Drove it once and 2 days later the a/c is out and I call- the receptionist says bring it back and they are going on vacation so hurry. Ok I asked is this visit going to cost more or what?- she gives me a song and dance about special glasses etc. but just bring it back, yeah right I just paid $250 for them NOT to find a leak, empty and dispose “bone dry” freon and fill it with $20 worth of Freon that the guy at auto zone does for free! So no I didn’t just bring it back. I took it to another mechanic and did the same work only found that one of the couplings was loose and he tightened it, filled the Freon and the a/c has been working perfectly for over a month now, all for $80 I asked if he found the leak because of the dye, and if he had the special glasses the secretary spoke of. He laughed and said there was no dye, the first thing he checks are the couplings and one was very loose. Was this the leak they would find after I brought it back? So no I don’t recommend this place at all- and would give negative stars if possible- I would highly NOT recommend this place at all, this is a 100% true review go anywhere else but here. No leaks found… at this time lol what a joke they didn’t need to put the dye because they knew where the leak was lol and how does a mechanic spend all day on a car checking for leaks and not find a loose nut?? All that for $250 - my new mechanic fixed and filled for $80 you draw your own conclusions. The a/c is still “blowing ice cubes” as Joe described it when I picked it up but the next day it was blowing nothing but hot air. If you’re looking for a good mechanic, don’t go here.

Always an easy, smooth, and honest experience here. They always take the time to explain to you what’s needed and what’s not needed. I’m used to having people at other auto shops pressuring you to buy or do things that don’t make sense..but these guys are so honest and helpful. They would literally argue with you not to purchase/do certain things because it’s unnecessary and waste of money. What a refreshing and honest experience! Thank you!

Joe runs a good shop here. There are about 7 mechanic shops closer to me in my neighborhood but I always choose to go to this one because these guys have over 20 years of experience AND THEY DON'T TRY TO ROB ME for stupid, silly shit. If you're going anywhere else, you're making a mistake. They got a great team running this place. They don't play games, keep it real, and truly care about their customers and their vehicles. He's got loyal clients for decades, and I'll be coming here until the end of time.

They say it's hard to find an honest mechanic. Perhaps. But Joe is about as honest as they come. Straighforward with no beating around the bush. Competent and knowledgeable. What more could you ask for? Also, office manager Debbie is beyond nice. Explains everything before Joe even sees your car. Great personality.
