Rice's Automotive

I got a NYS inspection in May 2025 from Bellerose Car Care. Hasib was the manager there at the time of my inspection and he later moved to Rice's Automotive. Hasib had ordered the wrong front tires for my car, which caused several dashboard errors. He had me come to Rice's Automotive (new shop he is now at) to resolve issues from my inspection. Hasib realized and admitted he had ordered front tires that are the wrong size for my car but he blames the mechanic (Ernie) for installing those wrong tires and he says it's Ernie's fault. He sent me to Hempstead Discount Tire (where Ernie is now at) and that Ernie will take care of the situation and fix it. I went there and Ernie said it's not his fault and it's Hasib's fault and that he (Ernie) will not be fixing the tires. Hasib said he feels bad and he will have his mechanic (Cruz) fix this situation Instead of providing the new tires I was owed and paid for, Cruz installed old, used tires from 2023. The proof was undeniable: one tire had a visible, pre-existing patch on it. This same patched tire went completely flat hours after I drove home I called Cruz immediately and he said to bring the car back and he'll take care of it. At this point, my trust was completely broken. A shop that passes off old, defective parts as a legitimate 'fix' is not a shop that operates with integrity and an excellent standard of service and I refused to waste any more time in receiving a bare minimum standard of service Their solution was minimal and dishonest I would not recommend this shop to anyone

BEWARE!! Took my VW with water pump issue quote was almost cost of vehicle . took car for second opinion now car is in limp mode with a bunch of engine issues .

I have used Rice for over 10 years for service on two cars. I used them because I trust them. Recently I had my 11 year old car upgraded. Including full detailing. The car came back in showroom condition, and felt great. Of course I highly recommend them. They treat each customer with respect and they know cars.

Rice's Auto Repair provided excellent service at a reasonable price for my brake change. They completed the job quickly, and I didn’t have to wait until the next day. I really appreciate their professionalism, friendlyness and honesty.

I have been going to this shop for several years and while they were never the cheapest place, I enjoyed going there because Kevin the owner stood behind his work and I prefer to support a local small business. That said, my last two experiences with this shop have been negative and each time Kevin has not been around. Issue 1: twice I asked them to replace a small plastic piece around the foglight on my car. Both times they say no problem, we will order the part and call you. Nobody ever called back and when I follow-up with them they do not seem to know what I'm talking about. I know replacing this part is not a big money-maker for them, but it matters to me a loyal customer. Issue 2: We recently had brand new tires installed on our SUV and when one of the tires had an issue 3 months later they were quite difficult to deal with. Granted this issue was in the side-wall and not the tread but they did not even try to work it out with their distributor. They wanted to charge me full retail on a new tire and installation. If I had bought these tires at Pep Boys (where they sell the same tire) I could have gotten the extended warranty (which covers stuff like this) for less money than I spent at Rices. I now very much regret getting my tires done at Rice's because there is a 60k mile warranty on these tires and if I have further issues I will have to bring it back to the same guys. I'm not sure what is going on at Rices but it seems there is a big difference when dealing with Kevin vs others in this shop. If you go here I suggest asking for Kevin specifically (if he is still around).
