**★★★★★ (5/5)** I felt compelled to write a detailed review of the New York State DMV located at 625 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn because it completely shattered all of my expectations. If you search for this specific location online or ask anyone in the area, you are going to hear an endless stream of horror stories and complaints about how terrible it is. People constantly warn you about the long lines, the rude staff, and the frustrating delays. Because of that reputation, I was filled with absolute dread when I found out I had to come here to handle an alleged traffic violation. I fully expected to spend my entire day trapped in a chaotic, slow-moving nightmare. Instead, my experience was the complete opposite. From the moment I walked into the building, I was surprised by how organized everything felt. The staff directed me exactly where I needed to go, and there was no confusion about the process. I was there to contest a traffic ticket at the Traffic Violations Bureau section, and the efficiency of the operations was genuinely impressive. The entire process went incredibly fast. I sat down, waited briefly for my case to be called, presented my side of the story, and wrapped everything up in record time. I was in and out of the building in less than 30 minutes total. To top it all off, the judge looked at the evidence and found me not guilty. The entire case was completely dismissed. I think a lot of the negative reviews come from people who are already frustrated about getting a ticket or who show up completely unprepared without the proper paperwork. If you have all your documents ready, know exactly why you are there, and remain polite to the staff, this facility runs like a well-oiled machine. It was fast, professional, and ended with the best possible outcome for my case. Do not let the negative hype scare you away. This location handled my hearing perfectly.

Appointments are needed and there are no walk-ins. Be prepared with a pen and have a book or something to do the distracting from time. Be on time because they will not see you if you are late. My wait was longer than usual, I had license renewal and image retake. Some staff were friendly while some weren’t. Place was clean and comfy seating is available, cool air system. Noise is high and bring a mask just in case. ♿️ wheelchair accessibility available.

The place is big and clean. I was pretty shocked at that. And the check in people were courteous - but possibly because I was dropping off old plates. Plates-drop is the only no-appointment walk in. I was told to go to line 7. It moved quickly. The woman immediately called up my name/account on computer and told me a refund for the balance of my previous car's registration would be issued. I give her a lot of credit for taking care of everything - swiftly, pleasantly and efficiently. Last month I registered my newer car at 11 Greenwich St. It was fine, but I still had to wait an hour after my appointment time. I can only imagine it much be a very very hard State job to hold, as the paperwork and bureacracy is about the thickest of any government agency. The misery rains down from every direction

Every time I come here I’m greeted with such kindness by staff… but today, Hall at window 50 was the worst. Idk what was her problem was but she treated me as if I was stupid from the bat and I haven’t even said anything to her. Idk if she realizes people can’t really hear her very well from the other side of the window. Answer your customer questions with kindness. Not with damn attitude. Treat people the way you wanna be treated. Idk why these places have terrible people.

Worst DMV experience I’ve ever had. What is the point of even having an appointment and completing the pre screening process if you still have to wait 2-3 hours? It also makes no sense to me why they take your photo before even checking you have the correct documents to ensure you’re not wasting your time. No system for checking where you are in line either - I was told to check with reception, who didn’t even look at my number and said “I don’t know, probably 45 more minutes.” The staff was incredibly unfriendly and literally yelling at customers. I understand that DMV workers aren’t treated the best, but there’s no reason to be hateful to customers who are being polite and simply asking for information.
