I came to this mechanic shop highly recommended by one of their loyal customers. Honesty and doing things the right way are incredibly important to me when it comes to car repairs, and I was hoping to experience that here. When I walked in, I asked the boss if they perform smoke tests for EVAP leaks. He quoted me \$250 and immediately jumped to a response that seemed off. I told him I wasn’t asking for a full fix, just for the test to be done. He became defensive and said, “I’m a mechanic, I don’t test, I fix.” I was taken aback because, as a customer, I don’t understand how you can fix something without first diagnosing the issue—especially when it comes to something as specific as an EVAP leak. It felt like he was just naming a price without even knowing what the actual problem was. Testing is key to making sure the right repairs are done, and skipping that step just didn’t sit right with me. At the end of the day, it’s about doing things the right way, not just making a quick buck. I truly value mechanics who take the time to understand the problem and are transparent in their approach. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the experience I was hoping for.
