Conklin Ford Service

Not super thrilled with my experience here. Recently purchased 2020 Escape (not from Conklin) it has a flapping noise near 60 (first video). Made an appointment on 5/25 to have it picked up from work and looked at, I work in Newton but live out of town and can’t leave work during that time. $170 to diagnose, told they found a loose dust cover and it was fixed. Following morning on my drive home, exact noise at exact described speeds (second video). Not fixed. While in for service on 5/25 I asked to have the front power transfer unit (similar to a differential) and rear differential fluids changed, I was told these are non serviceable components. Interesting considering both have easily accessible drain and fill plugs… the third picture shows the rear differential with both circled, fourth shows the PTU drain plug. I’ll handle that I suppose. I also requested a transmission fluid change, that was serviced but nothing looks disturbed? I’ll give benefit of the doubt it was done but the fill tube/vent and everything in the engine bay atop the transmission is still pretty dirty. Benefit of the doubt, maybe it was done from the underside and level check access. But looking underneath in 5/6, very little is disturbed and despite the “complimentary inspection”, no mention was given to me of the pretty obvious leak I have somewhere. Called 5/29 to reschedule a fix on the original noise on 5/30 at 11. Told advisor it needed to be picked up again, was asked address for pickup, it was provided and confirmed pickup / drop off. Called to double check at 1230 since the car was still sitting and told it was supposed to be dropped off at Conklin. To the gals credit she offered to schedule it for next week but I was trying to get it sorted before a trip next week and won’t be around. I’ve taken off my splash guard to start diagnosing this myself. The $170 got me some OEM Ford zip ties and screws applied though. 6/3/24 Update I ended up diagnosing the noise myself. I found rubber behind the grill to be the culprit, air dam in front of the active grill shutters. It has been oscillating for quite a while evidently as it’s worn holes through itself by rubbing on the grill. Still no idea how the tech could call this resolved, they threw a couple zip ties in and said it was good. I knew in moments after my first drive it was the same noise, it happened in the exact described conditions. 6/11/24 Update Serviced my own differential and PTU with fresh OEM Motorcraft fluids. I decided to check up on my transmission, since I paid for the transmission service. What I found is added frustration, it seems I paid for a service that was not performed. When I removed the level plug on the driver side of the transmission - fluid came gushing out. Two possibilities, either it was overfilled - which isn’t ideal. More probable, the fluid was never changed. The only other fill point is the vent/fill tube under the air box, which was caked with dirt and fluid that was present before I took it to Conklin. All of this area was undisturbed today as I work on a fluid change, which brings the conclusion nobody touched it. The last two pictures show the fluid fill condition, it should be up to temp and just at the bottom of the plug - not full enough to gush out. I can say with confidence the transmission was at least overfilled, seemingly not serviced period. I also attached a picture comparing the fluid condition that came out vs what new fluid looks like. To be fair, I’ve driven a few hundred miles so I won’t hang my hat on this - take it with a grain of salt. But this is pretty dark fluid compared to new for having been changed. It’s also worth noting I did not pay for a flush, just a fluid change but like I said prior, it doesn’t seem to have been done.

They were very professional and walked me through the issues. They answered all of my questions and I left knowing more about my car and feeling secured in my decision. I would highly recommend them to someone nervous about dealerships over recommending/pricing.

Josh at the service desk was very quick and helpful to find the problem with my Jeep Wrangler and his Technician Devon was thorough with his inspection he made the necessary repairs and had me back on the road to home in a very timely manner would very highly recommend this shop
