Dave's Mechanic Shop (DMS)

We are looking for a used car and took one of interest to DMS. I hadn’t ever heard of DMS but had to search for a shop that was close by the point of sale. Their pre-purchase inspection of the vehicle was unlike any we have ever experienced! We were SO impressed with their attention to detail, honesty, and thoroughness. We were able to make a confident decision because of their inspection. We are so thankful we found them and will definitely be back!!! If you need repairs- I highly recommend Dave’s Mechanic Shop!!!

We’ve taken our late model Hondas to Dave for several years, and we wouldn’t go anywhere else. He keeps them running well. If parts are needed, he explains everything that needs to be done. He is very thorough, honest, and knowledgeable. My daughter and her husband take their cars to Dave, as well. Also, the staff and mechanics are always friendly and welcoming.

I would have given them 0 stars if I can. I called the day before I went there and a worker told me that I can drop my car off the following morning to have it diagnosed and that they will try to fix the problem that day or a different day depending on the issue. I drop if off a 8am the next day and called around 11 am to check the status. A guy mentioned "Your car is being operated on as we are talking." When I called back again around 4pm a female worker told me that my car was third in line to be looked at. I told her that a guy had told me that the car was being operated on around 11 am. She then transferred the phone over to the guy and he said "I never told your car was being operated on, I will never lie to you, we can listen to the phone recording" I told him that he had mentioned that and that we can listen to the recording. He then switched the story and stated "What had happened was the techs were working on your car, and there was an emergency that happened so we had to stop working on your car and work on the other car." I found the switch up to be very absurd. He then stated "We are about to operate on your car now and if you have patience we can work on it." He insisted on wanting to work on the car after I mentioned that I want my car back and finally agreed once I stated that I don't want to proceed because I don't want to waste my time anymore. When I went there he introduced him self, shook my hand and said " I don't want you to think that I was lying in front of my coworkers and sorry if you thought that we wasted your time." I went to get my car and when I started my car a "low tire pressure" sign was on. Mind you it was not on until the last minute I drove my car to the dealership. I spent money to fill air in my tires at the gas station but the "low tire pressure" sign was still on! When I took it to a dealership, they found a big nail in my tire! In addition, thing I had a brand new basketball in the back seat of my car when I took it to Dave's mechanic shop. I wanted to play basket ball at night and the ball was deflated! Trust your intuitions and stay safe out there!!!

Dave was excellent to work with. I live almost 3 hours away and my daughter lives in Indy and brought her car in to get looked at. They completely checked out her car and found a number of things that needed attention. Dave was very detailed on what was wrong and what needed to be fixed and the cost. I have never had someone work on my car ever and be so honest, detailed and take the time to talk to me about fixing a car. He was absolutely professional and could tell he just wants to take care of his customers. Definitely 5 stars rating from me! I highly recommend taking a vehicle there!

I can’t express enough how wonderful these guys are. I had both of my catalytic converters stolen from my Jeep, and the car was already a rust bucket. But it was my rust bucket, and I wanted to try to save it. I told them I wanted to get it fixed at the lowest cost possible. They quoted me a price that was way lower than the other places I called and were willing to offer third party parts to bring the repair cost down. They later called me back and were incredibly honest about the reality of my situation. My car had far too many issues aside from the missing cats. They told me they would do anything I wanted, and if I still chose to repair it anyway, that option was there. Dave, the guy I spoke to on the phone, explained everything to me very clearly, complete with pictures and detailed information. It reached a point where I knew they weren’t trying to pull one over on me. He even told me, in his personal opinion as a person and not as a business owner, that my car wasn’t financially worth saving. I knew he was right, and he went above and beyond by recommending another shop that could have helped me for cheaper if I wanted to keep it running just a little while longer. JD, the person who helped get my car into the shop, was also super nice and friendly. He even remembered who I was when I called two days earlier, when I was initially trying to figure out why my engine was so loud. (Surprise, it was my stolen cats.) All in all, if you want an honest and very reasonably priced place to take your car, this is a great place to go. I know I’ll be back when I’m able to find another rust bucket to love ❤️
