AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care

I purchased my 2012 Silverado 1500 in late 2024/early 2025. Prior to my purchase, the transmission was rebuilt at AAMCO on 2/10/23. Since then, the truck has been used as a light‑duty daily driver—about a 24‑mile round‑trip commute. I have not towed with it, and the heaviest load it has carried was a dirt bike in the bed once. The vehicle is also stored in a heated garage. Last week, the transmission unexpectedly lost all forward gears. Fluid levels were normal, and there were no warning signs or symptoms leading up to the failure. Given the light use and the relatively recent rebuild, this outcome was surprising. I contacted AAMCO to ask whether any warranty assistance might be available, as I wasn’t sure if it could fall within a reasonable range. I was informed that no warranty applied. While I understand warranties have limits, I was hoping for some guidance or options given the circumstances. I can’t speak to the specific workmanship or technicians involved, but based on this experience, the longevity of the rebuilt transmission under light use was less than expected. I plan to update this review with mileage details so others can better assess expectations when considering a transmission rebuild. I’m posting this mainly to document my experience and would welcome any follow‑up or clarification from AAMCO regarding the situation.

Terrible experience. I brought my car in to be diagnosed as my engine light had been on and a quick scan at O’Reilly’s said it was a transmission issue. AAMCO told us it needed a solenoid repair for about $1,900, so I paid for the service. Just 5 days later, the check engine light returned, so I took it back to them and suddenly they claimed I needed a full transmission replacement costing around $5,500. They do want to give me credit for the amount I already paid them but only if I agree to the new service. So, they want me to pay an additional $3,500 but I can’t afford any additional cost. It’s clear the issue was misdiagnosed. If they had diagnosed it properly from the beginning, I would not have agreed to any repairs because I could not afford it. Now my car is not repaired, and I am out $1900 because they refuse to return my money. They claim they fixed the first problem but now there is a second problem and it is a new diagnosis. How is it possible that exactly 5 days later my car magically now needs a new transmission. On top of that, their documentation was inconsistent, and communication was extremely poor. It was very difficult to get straight answers or speak with management, and no accountability was taken for the failed misdiagnosis. I would not trust this shop with your money and would strongly recommend others seek a second opinion before agreeing to any repairs here.

Went in with carvana warranty. They cleared the codes and said it wasn’t popping up again, and should be fine. A month later the light came on again so I took it to another shop and they said major engine issues. The new shop said they didn’t know how aamco could have missed it. Cost me thousands because the warranty had now expired, when aamco could have done it under warranty for me so I only had to pay $100 deductible. They just didn’t want to. Upset is an understatement.

Quick and quality service. Thought they were mostly a transmission place but learned they do much much more. Had a differential, transfer case fluid flush and fuel injection cleaning done. Did the same work that was to be done at the dealer, but at a much more budget-friendly price. Manager was very nice and helpful. Would 100% return and recommend family and friends.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS SHOP. The owner is an absolute con artist. Told me he would pay for parts since I found my truck here after dropping it off to his new shop KNUDSON. I didn’t authorize this shop to do anything to my truck.
