I highly recommend going to a different mechanic. 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid broke down while driving to work and with the alarms of "Hybrid System Warning" and "Check active air flap system". Active air flap system has been broken for a decent period of time due to a small collision. I bring it to this shop for diagnosis and they said that the vehicle wouldn't start due to the active air flaps being broken and causing the vehicle to not kick on the engine due to fear of overheating. I thought this was a bit strange since when the vehicle broke down, I knew my active air flaps failed in the open position and engine temperature gauge showed that engine was no where near overheating (attached a picture I took of dashboard right when car broke down since needed to show boss why I was going to be late). I paid a bit over 1700$ to get the whole active air flap system replaced and got the vehicle out of the shop on May 14th. Car then broke down on May 18th with less then 50 miles driven since leaving the shop. Took it to a different mechanic since I'm never taking back a vehicle to the same mechanic if a breakdown occurs within days of repair since this is clear signs of either the mechanic being inept at their job or something more sinister like breaking stuff so that you need to pay for more repairs later. It also gives them the chance to weave a false narrative of how this is somehow a freak occurrence that has nothing to do with their recent work and its all somehow a coincidence. Best to get a 2nd opinion from a 3rd party. 2nd mechanic found out that the cars 12V battery needed to be replaced and the starting relay also needed to be replaced. These issues should have been addressed in the first diagnostic check done by you since these are the actual root issues causing the engine to not kick on. The other mechanic also says vehicle would never prevent engine from starting only due to a broken air flap system. It would have allowed it to start and would just need to be mindful of the engine temperature gauge (which has NEVER gone above the half way mark while driving and the active air flaps being non-functioning). Recommend going to a different mechanic that has more due diligence on diagnostic repair and isn't just trying to do the bare minimum to get you out the door with a non-essential repair that doesn't address the root cause. It would have taken you 5 minutes to use a multimeter to see that the 12V battery was on its last legs. I live paycheck to paycheck and I don't have the money for the new repairs after wasting a bunch of money on this mechanic. Going to likely be forced to scrap vehicle. Just waiting for the rest of my life to collapse due to not having transportation to work. If the mechanic happens to be reading this. Props to you for squeezing 1700$ out of me. Maybe you can use that 1700$ to go take some classes so you can learn how to actually do your job properly. Have a fine Navy day.

I brought in a used car for a pre-purchase inspection and had a positive experience. The mechanic was friendly, open, and patient. He explained to me what he was looking at as he inspected the car, highlighted things that would need attention, gave his assessment in the end, and gave me space to ask questions. The lady at the front desk was welcoming and kind, translated Spanish for me, and gave me and the seller space to figure out our transaction. Overall, the atmosphere was both friendly and professional.
