Marlen Automotive August 2025 Marlen automotive was referred to me by a fellow associate. They had their entire engine rebuilt and were happy with the outcome. After I shared my grievances of not having a trustworthy and reliable mechanic, I was feeling very hopeful that I found a shop that would take care of me. Let me just mention, I have owned my 96 Jeep GC for over 15 years and maintained it. As a female, and the daughter of my father, I have learned to do my own research and attempt to not get screwed over. Oz gave me that fatherly vibe and consistently reassured me the Jeep was in good hands. The primary issue was a bad fuel pump. But because they do engine work, I asked that they replace the timing cover. It took over a week for the work to get done, and as I paid, Oz made a comment that I better drive this car for at least a few more years. As I was driving down Foothill to Hastings Ranch, (lets say about 5 miles), I heard flapping from the engine. When I opened the hood, I discovered the serpentine belt had ripped. I was still able to drive it to Eagle Rock, but the next day, the Jeep wouldn't start. Being that I’m working two jobs and going to school, it took some time to get the Jeep towed back to Monrovia. Which, if you have standard AAA, you know I had to pay the extra mileage. Funny enough, Oz mentioned after the fact that he “should have had it towed for me.” The fuel pump that they initially replaced appeared to be faulty. Additionally, I brought a new belt for them to replace. After the Jeep was at Marlen Automotive for another week, and after having paid close to three thousand dollars, Oz assigned me “homework.” He said I would need to find a crank pulley, and also a gas gauge (because suddenly that was no longer working). He said, “bring the parts and we’ll do the work for free.” He also said that the belt situation was going to happen again (until I replaced the crank pulley). However this time, the misalignment on the pulley system was so terrible, I was lucky to even get home. The belt was more than flapping, it was wobbling this time. The Jeep was not drivable. And after much deliberation on the Jeep Forum, I was highly advised to not drive the Jeep until I replaced all the right parts. I did my homework and picked up a crank pulley, as well as an entire display cluster (because it's one unit). I also ordered a new harmonic balancer, serpentine belt, and tension pulley. But at this point, I’ve lost all hope from Marlen Automotive. Oz did not once call to check on the status of anything, he sent me away with an unsafe vehicle, and collected a lot of money that I'm still paying off today; without a working vehicle for over 3 months. I really had high hopes, and in all technicalities, as a consumer, I should probably receive some sort of refund. Funny enough, I’ve been asking around about the gas gauge not working, and most mechanics said that the sending unit on the fuel pump is bad. With as much disappointment that i have, there were a few pluses at least for diagnosing some issues. Mechanics are really hard to come by, but if Marlen Automotive works for you, then kudos. But I had quite an experience.
